T. J. O’Connor & Associates deliver Structural Engineering design services for a range of project types including shopping centres, healthcare, office and commercial developments, residential, hotel and leisure complexes, education and industrial buildings. Projects have included major mixed-use developments including Dundrum Town Centre.
Our design services incorporate innovative structural solutions which have included the world’s first bi-steel lift cores, constructed as part of the Dundrum Town Centre development.
The quality of our structural design work carried out has been recognised through the firm receiving both the Excellence Award for Structural Design and the Innovation Award of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland.

Our full ranges of services include the preparation of planning, tender and construction contract deliverables, procurement and management of site surveys, including existing services and ground investigation surveys, and the day-to-day management and site monitoring of these projects.
We also have extensive experience in the design of renovations and refurbishments to existing buildings, including protected historical structures.
Our staff are proficient in completing Value Engineering exercises on major designs using a variety of construction materials and techniques.
Health and Safety is to the forefront of our design services. Our staff have strong linkages to developments in Health and Safety in Design and Construction through representing the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) on the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2006 and associated Guidelines and developing and presenting the ACEI/EI Designing for Safety in Construction and Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) courses.
Our firm has in-depth knowledge of the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations (BCAR) SI No. 09 of 2014 and associated Code of Practice.
Senior staff having represented the Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland (ACEI) in consultations on drafting and implementing BCAR, including the wording of the Statutory Certificates and associated Code of Practice, the development of the Ancillary Certificates for Design Professionals and the production of templates for associated Inspection Plans.
Our firm are highly experienced in the use of Government Construction Contracts (GCC) with staff representing the ACEI over the past number of years in consultations with the GCC Committee on the Conditions of Engagement for Consultancy Services and the associated Procurement Criteria for the Department of Finance (DoF) Forms of Contract.
Management staff have experience acting as expert witness in a number of structural engineering construction related disputes including Basements, Certification and Pyrite.
